THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) has commissioned a driving school at the Chikurubi Training School that is set to provide driver training for correctional officers, inmates and the public.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Joshua Sacco, Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Advocate Norbert Mazungunye, Public Service Commission (PSC) Commissioner Mr Larry Mavima, ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu, Deputy Commissioner-General Shepherd Mpofu, and other senior Government officials.

In his remarks, Deputy Minister Mazungunye described the establishment of the driving school as a key milestone in the transformation of ZPCS.

“Today’s commissioning of this driving school is a strategic step forward and an initiative designed to complement Government efforts by enhancing the skills and competencies of our officers through specialised driver training,” he said.

“We firmly believe this initiative will contribute to the longevity and proper maintenance of the growing fleet, thereby safeguarding both human and material resources.”

Deputy Minister Mazungunye also applauded the spirit of inter-ministerial cooperation, thanking the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development for its support in the project.

He said competent and responsible driving was not merely a skill, but a core element of public safety and institutional discipline.

The new driving school will offer structured training programmes, combining theory and practical instruction for learners pursuing Class 4, Class 2 and Class 1 driver’s licences.
