HUNDREDS of mourners thronged Chinhoyi Prisons on Saturday to bid farewell to Assistant Principal Officer, Emmanuel Kondowe, who collapsed and died on Thursday evening.
He was 45.
Kondowe, who was a prison officer, left behind a wife and four children.
He was buried in Hurungwe yesterday.
Officer Commanding Prisons and Correctional Services in Mashonaland West, Commissioner Luke Zondai Makuvire, said they have lost a loyal and disciplined member of the organisation.
“He will continue to be mourned by many who knew him personally or by reputation.
“For those who were privileged to work with him, I have no doubt they have lost a darling and very close friend.
“It is very painful to lose your loved one.
“However, we accept it as the Bible says there is a season for everything.”
He was born at Masvingo General Hospital.
He attended Hwange Secondary School.
“Kondowe joined the Prisons and Correctional Services on September 3, 2001.
“He did his training at Ntabazinduna Training Depot school.
“He was posted at Hurungwe Prison Farm in 2002 and was later transferred to Chinhoyi in 2006 and was then
transferred to Kadoma prison in the same year.”
“He was promoted from PO 1 to Assistant Principal Officer in 2019.”
Kondowe studied for a National Diploma in Film and Television Production in 2013.
Prisons and Correctional Services National Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Elizabeth Kanyeze, told H-Metro:
“He was a hard worker who worked with minimum supervision. He was a self-motivator.
“As a section, we are deeply hurt by his sudden loss.
“He was someone who had cultivated a good working relationship with other stakeholders.”
Chinhoyi Prison Advisory Board Member, Musa Kombo, said:
“His death is a great loss. This is very painful. It’s not only the prison that has lost a good cadre but the whole community.
“Kondowe was a man of the people.”
