ZRP Beitbridge ran riot and massacred league newcomers Nkayi United 6-1 in a Zifa Central Soccer League encounter played at Dulibadzimu Stadium on Saturday.
The police outfit’s onslaught started as early as the fifth minute through hat trick hero William Nyoni who grabbed a brace just before the breather before completing his three-goal haul in the second half through a penalty.
Edmund Zhou scored straight from the corner while Clever Mupendebvure made it five before Tawanda Mqetu put the icing on the cake with a goal deep into stoppage time.
The win by the border town side was the highest scoring match in the league so far this season.
The previous record stood at six goals when Gaths Mine pummelled Gokwe-based side Chomumvuri Pirates 5-1 during the season opener.
ZRP Beitbridge mentor, Tavengwa Chafa expressed satisfaction at his side’s good showing and said the victory was a starting point for better results to come.
“This is a very encouraging result for us especially if you consider that we lost the previous week to Gweru City because the conditions were not favourable. The pitch was bumpy and we are used to playing a passing game.
“The victory is a starting point and we hope to maintain consistency and post more positive results,” Chafa said.
In other matches Gweru City’s purple patch continued after subduing winless Vumbachikwe 2-1 at Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda.
Goals by Joseph Matambo and Willie Zhowakinyu were enough for “Chiwororo” to post their second win in as many matches condemning the gold miners to their fourth defeat of the season.
