Police and the Crime Liaison Committee (CLC) today held a workshop aimed at coming up with various ways to curb criminal activities and taming the traffic jungle in Harare.
The workshop brought together officers in charge of the city as well as CLC chairpersons from the province, district, and station levels.
The Officer Commanding Harare Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi and CLC chairperson for Harare province Dr Nathaniel Madzivanyika also attended.
In his speech, Comm Chikunguru said, “This one-day workshop focused on vital topics such as ideology, crime and safety in Harare, traffic issues, and importantly, the functions and structures of the CLC. As we conclude, I believe this program has been essential in shaping your leadership skills and ensuring that everyone, including the officers in charge and Community Relations and Liaison Officers (CRLOs), understands their roles regarding the CLC.
“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for being here today. Your commitment to this workshop signifies your dedication to our shared goal of creating a safer Harare. A special thanks to all the esteemed facilitators who have shared their insights with you.”
The workshop was running the Theme, “ZRP Harare Province CLC fostering a sustainable smart stakeholder engagement in the fight against Crime”.
Dr Madzivanyika also said he was sure that the conference had opened up a lot of avenues for communication and synergies between the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the residents of Harare in the knowledge, communication and execution of such Partnerships to enhance an outcome of their dream, of a Crime free City of Harare.
“This requires strong relationships and trust between the police and the public. It is quite clear to us that the trust between the police and the public has become once more essential to effective Policing in today’s interconnected world,” he said.
“The interconnectedness in the world encompasses both the online space as well as the physical space which is now awash with lots of sophisticated crimes of concern in our midst.”
