ZRP releases names of victims in South African mine disaster

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has released the names of 20 Zimbabweans that died in a mine in Stilfontein, South Africa.

The Zimbabweans lost their lives during Operation Vala Umgodi launched by South African authorities in January this year.

The ZRP today issued a statement revealing the names after a request from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to assist in the identification and location of relatives of the deceased Zimbabweans.

According to the statement, the full list of victims is as follows:

  1. Bothwell Surumbane – Next of Kin: Unknown
  2. Bobo Mabhobo – Next of Kin: Maggie Dova
  3. Gladman Mlambo – Next of Kin: Unknown
  4. Blessing Mlambo – Next of Kin: Unknown
  5. Shepherd Mlambo – Next of Kin: Unknown
  6. Kensah Majori – Next of Kin: Shadreck Majori (brother)
  7. Benard Magombe – Next of Kin: Unknown
  8. Trust Matikiti – Next of Kin: Meshack Ziyuduma
  9. Jairoi Pasa – Next of Kin: Simon Maronga
  10. Moses Chidumba – Next of Kin: Fines Mahachi
  11. Thomas Chipeza – Next of Kin: Unknown
  12. Jack Mlambo Maeza – Next of Kin: Joseph Mlambo
  13. Edzai Mlambo Maeza – Next of Kin: Unknown
  14. Make Mlambo – Next of Kin: Kemas Mlambo
  15. Pindai Dumbarimwe – Next of Kin: Unknown
  16. Tendai Mubaiwa – Next of Kin: Unknown
  17. Mbeshiwa Mutubuki – Next of Kin: Unknown
  18. Tinashe Shangare – Next of Kin: Unknown
  19. Tafadzwa Ndlovu – Next of Kin: Unknown
  20. Justice Mpofu – Next of Kin: Unknown

The statement indicated that while the identification process is ongoing, it is believed that all victims are Zimbabwean. Efforts are underway to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies for burial in Zimbabwe.
