at this year’s Southern Africa Regional Police Chiefs Co-operation Organisation Games in Windhoek, Namibia, in August.
This year the number of participating teams rose from 2 350 athletes to 2 947. Newly-established, Border Control Unit, had the least number of athletes with 132.
Speaking at the launch ceremony Commissioner General of Police, Augustine Chihuri, said he was happy that all the provinces were represented and believes they will come up with a strong national police team.
“I feel honoured to be among you for this year’s official launch of the Police General Sports Gala for 2013 and I wish all the athletes a great week ahead,” Chihuri said.
“The commanders in the provinces did a good job which saw us gathering here and I am happy with the turnout. We are looking forward to have the best participants for the Namibia Games.
“The event has continued to rise and the numbers speak for themselves. Sport is very vital for the force as it keeps us strong both mentally and physically.”
