tour of liberation war shrines where freedom fighters who were killed during the Second Chimurenga are buried.
Among them are 116 recruits from the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s three training camps – Morris Depot, Chikurubi and Ntabazinduna.
The touring party will visit Mkushi Camp, Mulungishi Camp, Freedom Camp, St Mary’s Cemetery, Kenneth Kaunda National Museum and the late nationalist Cde Herbert Chitepo’s house.
The delegation is being led by Depot Commandant Senior Assistant Commissioner Grace Ndebele and Mr Lovemore Mandima (regional director: National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe).
Yesterday, some of the senior officers in the delegation went to the Zambia Police Headquarters to pay a courtesy call on their colleagues.
They were received by Deputy Commissioner (administration) Standwell Lungu.
Deputy Commissioner Lungu expressed gra-titude to the ZRP for taking such an initiative in educating the recruits about Zimbabwe’s history.
“This is very important. We need to preserve it. We need to take the born-frees to the areas we passed through (liberation struggle). It is something very important,” he said.
The deputy commissioner said they were learning a lot from the ZRP.
“We have been in Zimbabwe and we appreciate the assistance you have given us. It is my hope that our officers here are going to give you the assistance that you want,” he said.
Snr Asst Comm Ndebele appreciated the good gesture by their counterparts.
“We are moving around with our trainees who were born after independence and we call them born-free so that they understand the country’s liberation struggle.”
She said their curriculum includes teaching the political history of Zimbabwe so that the recruits would be able to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.
Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has said it was vital for the trainees and the youths to understand the country’s liberation struggle.
