ZIMBABWE Rugby Union general manager Sifiso Made says the ZRU have intensified their preparations for the upcoming Confederation of African Rugby Sevens tournament.
The two-day event has been set for November 29 and 30 at Harare Sports Club. The 12 countries expected to take part are Kenya, Uganda, Tunisia, Nigeria, Madagascar, Namibia, Botswana, Senegal, Zambia, Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa and hosts Zimbabwe.
“There is nothing that stops or deters us from holding a properly-funded event, I know economically we are still recovering but yet again we will have the support of CAR,” Made told the ZRU official website.
“I do not see us failing to host a spectacular event.
“As you know, we have hosted tournaments of such a pedigree, this is the fifth time that we will be hosting an international sevens event.” The ZRU have pegged the cost of hosting the tourney at US$100 000.
“It’s also going to be a struggle, we are always looking for more because what we get from CAR covers the bare minimum but, like I have always said, there are a lot of corporate establishments and individuals out there who love rugby in Zimbabwe,” said Made.
“I know that at the end of the day we will be able to stage a world class event not only for Zimbabwe but for the rest of Africa and the world at large.”
