The Afre board was scheduled to meet last Friday to propose recapitalisation of Afre in the wake of a crisis that embroiled the listed firm.
A proposal will be made for Econet to underwrite the rights offer. Last Friday’s meeting was also expected to set timelines for the rights issue.
Earlier plans to float a US$10 million rights issue to recapitalise Afre derailed after revelations the firm and its subsidiaries dabbled in illegal inter-party transactions.
Colcom and Old Mutual gained a cent each to US46c and US158c.
On the downward side was Delta which lost US1,50c to US80c, Natfoods declined US1c to US95c. Panenga was slightly lower at US5,90c dropping US0,10c.
RTG was bid at US2c. The group says it has fallen on hard times following suspension of its shares on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange amid revelations that its financiers are closing and will not renew its credit facilities.
Chief executive Mrs Chipo Mtasa said recent media reports insinuated that shares of RTG had been suspended as a result certain fraudulent activities, a development she said was threatening the commercial viability of one of the country’s hospitality giants.
Mrs Mtasa pointed out that RTG, in view of termination of credit facilities by its bankers, the group could plunge into serious capital constraints.
