THE Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) yesterday met different interested players in the sector in Bulawayo ahead of the 2016 Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism and Travel Expo to be held in the city in June.
The event, to run from 16 to 18 June, seeks to promote networking among buyers, exhibitors and suppliers of goods and services in the tourism field and enhance economic earnings from the sector.
ZTA chief operations officer Givemore Chidzidzi told Business Chronicle after the meeting that all preparations for the crucial annual tourism convention were in place.
“We’re ready to go and are in the process of engaging more exhibitors and buyers. We’ve set an ambitious target of 180 exhibitors and 185 buyers from different markets half of which should come from the region,” said Chidzidzi.
“We want to provide a very relevant and quality exhibition that will be unique. To ensure effective preparations we’ve adopted a local organising committee.
“In this case we’re saying the involvement of the private sector is critical. They’re giving shape and colour to the programme.”
The government directed ZTA to shift the hosting of Sanganai/Hlanganani expo to Bulawayo saying the city has favourable conditions for hosting the event.
The move followed reports that some exhibitors were turned away last year because of shortage of space.
Chidzidzi said ZTA has successfully engaged the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Company and signed a memorandum of understanding for the hosting of the prime event and provision of essential services for its success.
