The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists and the Zimbabwe National Editors’ Forum (ZINEF) yesterday welcomed the appointment of Kindness Paradza as the new Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
Cde Paradza, who is Member of Parliament for Makonde, is a former publisher of Africa Tribune Newspapers, publisher of the then Tribune Newspaper and former president of ZUJ.
In a statement issued yesterday, ZUJ president Michael Chideme said the union was looking forward to working with Cde Paradza.
“The union looks forward to working with Deputy Minister Paradza, also the MP for Makonde, on all issues of free journalistic enterprise and freedom of expression that ZUJ espouses to ensure a vibrant media and an informed citizenry that freely participates and contributes to democratic governance and development in the country,” he said.
Mr Chideme commended the Presidium for continuing to appoint journalists to senior positions. “ZUJ urges Mr Paradza to embrace all journalists and help cement the unity that ZUJ is forging among members to avoid unnecessarily polarisation of the media,” he said.
ZINEF secretary general Isdore Guvamombe, said editors were excited to know of Paradza’s appointment.
“We have been in the trenches of journalism with him for a very long time. Before he became a politician he was a journalist first.
“Most importantly he has proved that journalists can go beyond reporting about others and enter national politics and governance as leaders and news makers. We look forward to working with him well, like we have done with all officials currently at the Ministry,’’ said Guvamombe
