Johannesburg — President Jacob Zuma on Saturday wished ANC veteran Winnie Madikizela-Mandela a speedy recovery. A statement issued by the presidency said Madikizela-Mandela had been admitted to hospital, but was in a stable condition. “We wish Mama Winnie a speedy recovery. We also urge the nation to keep her and the Mandela family in their thoughts and prayers during this time,” said Zuma.

According to reports Madikizela-Mandela has been hospitalised for complications arising from surgery. Eyewitness News reported earlier in the week that sources revealed Madikizela-Mandela had been hospitalised a few weeks ago.

They later reported that the ANC veteran had previously had surgery to her back and complications had arisen. Further adding to the health woes was her diabetes. The High Court in Mthatha last week dismissed Madikizela-Mandela’s application for ownership of her late former husband Nelson Mandela’s home.
