THE Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (Zusa) for the third year in a row dominated the Zimbabwe Tertiary Institutions Sports Union (Zitisu) games which were hosted by the Midlands State University. The games which ran from Friday to Saturday saw the varsities harvesting 26 gold medals, 27 silver and 26 bronze to maintain their dominance.
Zimbabwe Teachers Colleges Sports Association (Zitcosa) were second with 17 gold medals, 20 silver and 19 bronze while the Tertiary Education Sports Association of Zimbabwe (Tesaz) were last with 16 gold medals, 13 silver and 16 bronze.
Zitisu president Martin Zibwi said the union had come up with a provisional team which will take part at the Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (Cucsa) Games to be held in Zambia.
The games will run from August 16-23.
He said: “We carried out the selection process during the games and we now have a provisional list which we will finalise on Friday.
“Teams that were knocked out during the group stages will also form part of the Cucsa team because we now have a blending policy where the winning team retains 60 percent of the players while 40 percent is from other participants.”
He said the universities have the bulk of the athletes in the provisional list.
The last Cucsa games were held in Namibia in 2012 with Zimbabwe finishing third.
