A Zvishavane couple has been arrested after they were found in possession of 35 kilogrammes of dagga and illegal medicines at their house.

Cliff Mutenda (33) and his wife Revet Mahat (28) appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Archie Wochiunga facing two counts of unlawful possession of drugs and selling unregistered medicines.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded out of custody to February 24 for trial.

For the State, Tinashe Muponda said on July 24 last year at around 3am detectives acting on a tip-off proceeded to Mutenda and Mahat’s house.

The court heard that they were found packing loose dagga in plastic sachets and a search was carried out resulting in the recovery of dagga packed in plastic bags, sacks and a plastic bucket. The dagga weighed 35 kilogrammes.

The court also heard that while inside the house of Mutenda and Mahat, detectives also recovered 27×100 millilitres of Broncleer cough syrup, 36×100 millilitres of an unnamed syrup and 60x100ml Novalyn cough syrup which they had no right to possess.

Mutenda and Mahat were subsequently arrested.
