THE Zimbabwe Football Association has given the thumbs up to FC Platinum to use facilities in Zvishavane ahead of their 2015 Confederations Cup preliminary round tie against Kenyan side Sofapaka FC next month. This follows a two-day inspection of the facilities by Zifa conducted ahead a scheduled visit by a Caf inspector before the end of this month.

Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze, who was part of the entourage, said the town was ready to host international matches sanctioned by the continental football body.

He said they looked at Mandava Stadium, accommodation and medical facilities and the aerodrome that is situated 10km outside the mining town and they were satisfied with the facilities across the board with Mandava having previously been approved to host Caf inter-club matches while Pote Hill Lodge and Runde Lodge would provide satisfactory accommodation for both the visiting team and match officials.

Zvishavane Hospital and Shabanie Mine Hospital are equipped to handle emergencies hence they were certain to pass the Caf requirements, said Mashingaidze.

The Zifa team included Wilfred Mukuna (stadiums), Lovemore Marange (security), Weston Mabande (competitions) and Wellington Mugwagwa (marketing).

“We have been in Zvishavane for the past two days and after going through the facilities we will compile a report for Caf, which will be used by the continental body’s inspector when he arrives to do his own tour. The facilities are good and meet international standards, the Pote Hotel is now a three star facility, big enough to fit a complete football team while Runde Lodge, also located within the town can accommodate the visiting officials,” said Mashingaidze yesterday.
