Tanaka Moyo (22) of Zvishavane has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.

A Zvishavane Magistrates Court convicted Moyo after his arrest during a police patrol on September 24.

Police officers conducting a stop-and-search operation found 16 sachets of crystal methamphetamine (0,01 kg) and six twists of dagga (0,02 kg) on Moyo’s person.

The court slapped Moyo with two years for possessing methamphetamine and one year for possessing dagga, with six months suspended on condition of good behaviour.

This leaves him to serve an effective sentence of two years and six months.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said the sentence delivers a strong message against drug-related offences.

The NPAZ urged communities to collaborate with law enforcement agents to report drug possession and trafficking, as part of efforts to protect youths and society at large.
