Zvishavane surbubs goes 3 months without water

Midlands Bureau

Zvishavane Town is sitting on a health time bomb with the majority of its suburbs having gone for three months without water.

The town’s local authority has blamed the situation on low pumping capacity and dwindling water levels at the town’s water supply dam.

The affected suburbs include Maglas, Mandava, Kandodo and Nil.

The residents said they have been using unsafe sources of water and feared a cholera outbreak with the onset of the rains.

Council chairperson, Mr Takarangana Keta said the local authority is only pumping 10 to 12 megalitres of water against a demand of about 30 mega litres.
