ZWITTER FC coach Tatenda Tamirepi says they have fused their social football team with female players in an attempt to address gender-based violence.
Zwitter was established after one user, named Makomborero, challenged Twitter users to form a social football club.
The team is based in Harare and it uses Belvedere Teachers College and Prince Edward High School for its matches.
The players fund the team through monthly subscriptions.
They have also attracted corporates like Tendai Dara Inc, DaRozvi Studios, Drop Studios and socialite Mudiwa Hood, who chips in from time to time.
Tamirepi said they agreed not to register Zwitter, with any organised social league, because they fear it would dilute the excitement that comes with playing without pressure of winning.
“Our objective is to enjoy through social soccer, so we decided not to join any league because the demands for the results were going to affect what we are seeking to achieve,” said Tamirepi.
“We have female players who have joined us, and we urge more to come.
“This can be the best way to help fight gender-based violence.
“We have an open-door policy, and anyone can join the team.
“We even have players who travel from as far as Beitbridge and Kwekwe to enjoy the beautiful game, playing for us.”
