ZWoMIT raises over US$200 000 for district hospitals

The fundraising was dedicated to improve the water and sanitation system in district hospitals.

Speaking at the end of the ceremony, Secretary of the Zanu PF’s women league Cde Oppah Muchinguri said some of the participants funded in kind.
“Some companies who came here tonight (Friday) have offered basic commodities to benefit the hospitals for an example we received 1 000 kg of brown sugar, a hectare of tobacco and cement among the other things,” said Cde Muchinguri.

She said ZWoMIT would continue to do fundraising programmes for the health sector and thus more events are online.
In an interview with Deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare Douglas Mombeshora, he said the 10 boreholes are set to be distributed in all the provinces.

“We are going to allocate one borehole to each Province and the Provincial Health Directors (PHDs) will assist in choosing the best location before they are installed,” said Dr Mombeshora.

“The water and sanitation problem is greatly affecting the health system and thus we applaud the ZWoMIT and everyone who has participated in this event for making efforts in improving the situation.”

He added: “The two dialysis machines donated tonight (Friday) will be allocated in any two central hospitals that have used the machines before.
“It is impossible for us to install these machines in new centres because the country has a shortage of health personnel to operate these machines, therefore it is better to give the centers which have some experiences with the machines.”

The fundraising dinner was attended by several Government officials who included Zanu-PF National Chairman Cde Simon Kaya Moyo, Minister of Youth Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment, Saviour Kasukuwere, Minister of Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development, Nicholas Goche, Minister of Women’s Affairs and Gender Development Olivia Muchena, among other officials.
