1 000 families to move

000 families in the Tokwe-Mukosi Dam flood basin who should be relocated before November this year which is the dam’s scheduled completion date. Shortage of funds and resistance by some of the families had been stalling efforts to relocate them.

Government recently provided US$1 million to compensate some of the families and also to finance pegging of their new plots in Nuanetsi Ranch.

Masvingo provincial administrator Mr Felix Chikovo yesterday said Government had started moving 1 000 families from Tokwe-Mukosi saying the exercise should be completed by 31 July.

“We have started moving 1 000 families from Tokwe-Mukosi to Lot 16 and the Mutirikwe section in the Nuanetsi Ranch where clearing of their plots is already under way.

“We hope to have completed the relocation of the 1 000 families by 31 July,” he said.

Mr Chikovo said after the relocation another 3 000 families should be moved by September.
