Governor Chigwedere said the number was considerably high and Government should come up with a solution.
“There are 1 111 teaching posts which are vacant in the province. Of these, 787 are in secondary schools and 324 are in primary schools,” he said.
He said the posts may be more than that as some vacancies had been filled by temporary teachers.
The province has 980 schools, 670 of which are primary and 310 secondary schools.
Governor Chigwedere commended the launch of the national e-learning programme saying it would go a long way in enriching the education sector.
“However, teacher shortages in the province have to be looked at to make this initiative a success,” he said, adding the e-learning project should be formalised and introduced into the schools curriculum. — New Ziana.
