A MUTARE father of two stunned the civil court last week after offering $5 each as maintenance for his children. Appearing in court with his ex-wife Tsitsi Chitsa, Anymore Manetsa told magistrate Mrs Sharon Chipanga that he did not have a specific job for his upkeep and only survives on $10 every month. The magistrate ruled that Manetsa should pay $70.
“Your Worship, where am I going to get the $70 from? The amount is too much for me because I am not employed and I am on medication. This is just a polite way of sending me to jail because I will be arrested for defaulting in paying the maintenance since I have offered all that I earn”, said Munetsi disapprovingly to the magistrate’s ruling.
Manetsa was urged by Mrs Chipanga to go and work hard for his two children and act responsibly because he chose to be a father.
Tsitsi, the mother of two who is a vendor residing in the high-density suburb of Hobhouse, had told the court of Anymore’s negligence, bearing all the responsibilities of paying school fees, food and clothing on her. She had made an application of $150 as maintenance.
