Tavonga Mutimbiri (22) of Chief Chireya in Gokwe North stabbed his brother Forget Mutimbiri (24) with an Okapi knife once on the left side of the chest and he died shortly afterwards.
Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Nicholas Mathonsi, sitting on circuit in Gweru, convicted Tavonga after a full trial.

In passing sentence, Justice Mathonsi said Tavonga deserved a custodial penalty to deter other offenders.
Prosecutor Ms Diana Msipa proved that on November 17 last year at 3pm, Tavonga and Forget were instructed by their mother Eunice Mutimbiri to yoke the cattle and plough her field.
Forget, the court heard, refused to comply and said he wanted his wife to shave his beard on the day.

He further told Tavonga that he wanted to use the same beasts in his field the following day.
Forget also indicated he wanted to use the same oxen in his field which resulted in an altercation between the two brothers.

Tavonga drew the Okapi knife and stabbed Forget once on the left side of the chest.
He later went home and tried to take a pesticide in a bid to commit suicide.

An alert relative Moreblessing Mutimbiri wrestled the pesticide container bottle from Tavonga before other relatives and villagers apprehended him.
They handed him over to the police.
