A 20-YEAR-OLD Gwanda man who broke into the house of his parents’ tenants and raped two of their daughters aged eight and six has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.The man yesterday appeared before Gwanda regional magistrate Mr Joseph Mabeza to answer to two counts of rape.
He pleaded not guilty but was convicted.
The prosecutor, Mr Johannes Tlou, said sometime between January and March this year, and at night, the two girls were left at home alone in Gwanda Town while their mother went to work.
The man took advantage of the situation and unlocked the door of the complainants’ room using a duplicate key.
He found one of the complainants sleeping on a mattress which was on the floor while the other was sleeping on the bed.
He then undressed the two and raped them.
The six-year-old screamed for help but was silenced by the rapist who slapped her once on the cheek.
The matter came to light when the girls narrated their ordeal to their aunt in Bulawayo whom they had visited during the school holidays in April.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the man’s arrest.
