NIAMEY. — A total of 101 Boko Haram fighters were killed during two attacks carried out on March 28 and 30 by Nigerian and Chadian forces in Lake Chad basin, an official source in Niamey said on Wednesday.
A statement from Niger’s defence ministry said a group of Boko Haram terrorists who tried to enter Niger’s Far East locality of Bosso, near the Nigerian border, were on March 30 intercepted by Nigerian and Chadian forces who inflicted heavy losses on the group.
During this attack, 47 terrorists were killed, four of their vehicles destroyed and several motorcycles as well as weapons impounded.
On March 28, during a mop up operation in Nigeria’s northern sector of Talagam, Chadian and Nigerian security forces destroyed a Boko Haram base, killing 54 terrorists and destroying an armoured vehicle and three Toyota vehicles.
During this attack, three Nigerian soldiers were injured, with one of them transferred to Niamey for specialised treatment, the source added.
For the last one month, Nigerian and Chadian forces have been carrying out an operation dubbed “Operation Mai Boulama” in the Nigerian territory with an aim of neutralizing Boko Haram terrorists and securing Lake Chad basin.
The operation has resulted into elimination of over 600 terrorists and capture of several Nigerian localities initially held by Boko Haram, it added. — Xinhua.
