12 horses lined up for Breeders Champions race

Mandla Moyo Sports Reporter
IT’s show time once again at Borrowdale Racecourse when 12 horses line up for the Breeders Champions race set for tomorrow.

The race is on at 4:30PM.

Twelve tried and tested long distance runners will trade iron and leather over a medium stayers distance of 2,000M.

From a total of seven races on the card set for the day, the Breeders Champions Race is the main event of the day. It has been pencilled in as race six.

The first runner to go past the winning post will collect $5,700 while the second, third and fourth placed horses to cross the finishing line will pocket $1,900, $1,188 and $712 respectively.

All eyes will be on Two Gun Kid the highest rated runner at (91) ridden by jockey Ryan Munger from the Dorrie Shame stable.

From a total of 47 competitions, Two Gun Kid has won seven times and placed 16 times. Even though this horse has been drawn well at lane one, its top weight of 60.0 kilogrammes is likely to take its toll on the runner when the going gets tough.

The fact that its statistics are not pleasing in longer distances is also a cause for concern for those intending to follow it.

In lane two is Captain’s Tiger, a Zimbabwean bred horse ridden by jockey François Naude.

Captain’s Tiger has found his way into the stall gates 48 times winning 11 times and placing 26 times.

Even though this horse is rated highly at (90) in this race just a place behind the leader Two Gun Kid, punters are likely to look at it with a bag of mixed feelings for various reasons.

It has a top weight of 60.0kgs that it has to carry around the bends of Borrowdale Racecourse and was rested for 84 days prior to this race.

Captain’s Tiger is a horse so difficult to predict, however, when firing from all cylinders this horse is a marvel to watch as it strides down the turf towards the winning post.

On a good day it can reduce world class horses to ordinary runners especially over long distances.

However, at times it has a tendency of performing below expectations leaving its followers bitter and disappointed.

Fans therefore need to keep an eye on this one as it is comfortable over long distances, a place finish is well within reach.

Trainer Kirk Swanson has opted to throw Madigan into the deep end in search of the top prize.

Jockey Kevin Derere will control the proceedings from the comfort of the saddle. From 28 runs, eight wins have been recorded alongside nine place finishes by Madigan.

As the distance gets longer its numbers have improved proving once again that this horse is made for the stayers races even though its recent form is not pleasing.

At the end of the race this horse will be up there with the leaders if not in charge of the show as it desperately needs it.

Trainer Bridget Stidolph, former deputy trainer to Lisa Harris, will saddle Menacing rated (81) with Quinton Riddle to do all the tactical dirty work.

Menacing will carry a light weight of 56.0 kilogrammes. From 28 races this horse has won four times and placed 10 times.

If there is a runner who is capable of spoiling the day for the rival trainers then this is the ideal horse. Just keep your eyes open.

Of late this horse has displayed impressive form therefore punters must give it the respect it deserves.

Killa Man rated (73) with Denicious Smith on board is also another runner to look out for in this race.

Other runners in with a chance are Copper Bay ridden by Francois Herholdt, Rock The Country (Wesley Marwing), A King Is Born (Fanie Chambers), Gentle Brook (Karl Zechner), Forty One ( Derrick David), Orbit War (Collen Storey) and Demitasse by Diego de Gouveia.
