Byo actor lands Mr Perfect role

POPE John Paul II once said, “Artistic talent is a gift from God and whoever discovers it in him has a certain obligation, to know that he cannot waste this talent, but must develop it.” This, coming from one of the most influential people in the Christian world could have been directed at Prince Moyo, a male model hailing from the City of Kings who is now exploiting his natural talent. Moyo is set to feature in a local drama “Mr Perfect” set to hit the local screen next month as the lead character in what is expected to show how he is developing his talent Moyo, playing the lead character in the drama series, assumes the role of a Nigerian man – Chike, who finds himself in love with a woman (Sandra Ndebele) struggling to find a lasting relationship.

In an interview, Moyo said he was excited to land the leading role and hopes it would be the beginning of greater things to come in his career. “This is quite an achievement for me; it actually comes as a bonus to everything that I am presently doing. When I landed the role, I saw an opportunity to showcase my talent in acting and that is what I am focusing on right now,” he said.

The 25-year-old Bulawayo actor is not a novice in the showbiz industry. “I am not at all intimidated by my role in the drama, even though I am acting as a Nigerian. I am confident in myself and I know that I can do anything”, he said. “Acting has always been in my blood. I started acting at a young age and I know the tricks of the trade. I used to do drama back in school and even at church, although my focus was not on that,” he said. The drama, expected to be a hit on the local box industry, especially among the youth, was written and directed by local filmmakers. Apart from Moyo, the cast is made up of experienced people in the showbiz industry.

Singer – Ndebele, comedian – Clive Chigubhu and the enigmatic Babongile Sikhonjwa form part of the A+ cast. Moyo said that he was looking forward to opening his own arts academy, where people will be able to nurture and polish their talents. “I am looking forward to opening my own academy in the future where I will mentor youths especially children from local schools, particularly in the western areas”, he said. In 2012, Moyo also featured in another local drama series – Suku, which saw local artiste, Qeqeshiwe Mntambo being awarded for the best female actress in the National Arts Merit Awards.
