MVURWI is set to host a Miss Valentine’s beauty pageant tomorrow, with at least 15 contestants competing for the crown.
Hosted by the town’s Stone and Water resort, the pageant aims to nurture brand ambassadors and offer the girl child lucrative opportunities in the modelling industry.
Vitalis Kereke, the resort’s owner, said his focus is on embracing agro-tourism and promoting the growth of modern recreational activities in the town.
Stone and Water has become a leading destination in Mvurwi, offering services like boat cruising, chalet camping, braai, quad bikes and horse riding.
Model Trish Nyasha Mukono, who is the face of the resort, said they held a Miss Stone and Water beauty pageant last year drawing 30 contestants from across the country.
“For young girls in urban set-ups such activities like modelling offer a way to alleviate social ills like teen pregnancies, child marriages and drug abuse, offering means of employment in the recreational and tourism sectors.
“I participated in the previous Miss Stone and Water beauty contest where I was number one and I am currently the face of the resort as its brand ambassador.
“I will be on the panel of adjudicators on Saturday.
“My advice is for the girl child not to be limited in exploring some of these activities as people tend to think it is only a preserve of those from well up backgrounds,” said Mukono.
Kereke said his focus is on embracing agro-tourism after he converted a forestry and stony chunk of his farm lying close to the banks of Gulliver Dam.
“We are not just in business to make money, but also to contribute to the healthy growth of society by bringing in platforms that offer families opportunities to share love, bond, heal and relax from the daily inhibitive social forces that affect love affairs, relationships and marriages.
“Our stance is also to promote the growth of agro-tourism to add a touch of modernity which gives Mvurwi a befitting stature of its town status, hence we have created Stone and Water to be one of the leading tourism destinations in town.”
