16 years jail for raping girl

The man, aged 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of rape before senior Western Division regional magistrate Mr Owen Tagu.

He was sentenced to 20 years in jail of which four years of his sentence were conditionally suspended for five years.

Mr Tinashe Dzipe told the court that on 17 May last year, at about 2pm, the complainant was coming from school in the company of two schoolmates when they met the man.

He grabbed her by the hand and told the schoolmates to go away, but when they seemed reluctant to go away he produced a knife to scare them and they ran away.

He dragged the complainant still holding the knife and when they were in the bush, he ordered her to undress and raped her once.

After the act, he told her to dress up and after that he grabbed her hand and they walked for about a kilometre using a bush path and he again ordered her to undress and lie on the ground and raped her for the second time.

He let her go home when it was getting dark and when she got home she informed her mother about what had happened and a report was made to the police leading to his arrest.
