18-year-old sentenced for raping minor

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man from Epworth has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl who lives in the same neighborhood.
On 5 July, 2024, the accused’s father borrowed a pen from the girl’s mother, who was out at the time, leaving the girl and her younger sister alone at home. Later, the accused’s father left without returning the pen. The accused then lured the girl to his house, claiming he wanted to return the pen. However, when she arrived, he dragged her inside, slapped her twice, and threatened to harm her if she made a sound.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of  Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, the incident came to light when the complainant’s mother returned home and grew concerned after noticing something amiss.
She followed her daughter to the accused person’s residence, where she found her daughter’s belongings outside the door. Suspicious, she entered the house and found the accused person in a compromising situation with her daughter. The mother immediately reported the incident to the authorities, leading to the accused person’s arrest.
The accused person was convicted and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
