NINETEEN candidates were attested as volleyball umpires at the end of a 10-day international workshop in Harare on Monday. The workshop accommodated several participants from Africa. The course director was Jean-Claude Baccus and the instructor was Sandy Steel. “Nineteen candidate referees were attested today in Harare, Zimbabwe after concluding the Zone 6 hosted course with participants from Burkina Faso 3, Cameroon 1, Egypt 1, Lesotho 2, Mozambique 3, Rwanda 1, Madagascar 1, Uganda 1, Zambia 1 and Zimbabwe 5,” said Zimbabwe Volleyball Association president Frederick Ndlovu on Monday.
Ndlovu thanked Zone 6, the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for entrusting Zimbabwe with hosting such a high level workshop.
Ndlovu said his association was prepared for any task assigned by the zone and international bodies in Volleyball.
Baccus challenged those who participated to stay in the sport and commended them for attending at short notice.
The guest of honour at the graduation ceremony was Admire Masenda, the president of the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee.
Meanwhile, Ndlovu was expected to leave Zimbabwe for FIVB congress last night with association secretary-general Ringi Mapondera.
