In a statement, Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said the incident took place at around 8PM.
“Police in Lusulu are looking for two accused persons in connection with a case of kidnapping which occurred at Siambuteni One, Magedhe Village in Lusulu on 15 March 2026 at around 2000 hours.
“The accused persons who were identified as Mlungisi Tshuma and Zamelihle Lunga are male adults living in the same village as the complainant,” said Inspector Banda.
The police spokesperson revealed that on the fateful day, the accused persons who were wielding an axe and a machete, confronted Previous Sibanda (29) at Magedhe Business Centre who they suspected of having killed their relatives through beer poisoning in South Africa.
“A misunderstanding ensued as they tried to catch him, Previous Sibanda escaped unhurt and went to his father’s homestead but they managed to grab his itel cellphone valued at US$20.
“The accused pursued him and found his 55-year-old father called Luke Sibanda. Brandishing their weapons, they demanded to know where his son was hiding but he did not oblige, sensing danger, he fled, with the accused persons in hot pursuit and they caught him at Magedhe Business Centre, hoping that Previous Sibanda would show up to defend his father,” said Inspector Banda.
“Through an anonymous tip-off the police managed to react and rescued Luke Sibanda who indicated that he was not harmed by the accused persons,” added the police spokesperson.
He revealed that investigations are still in progress.
“As police, we implore citizens to avoid getting even whenever there are misunderstandings over social issues. Many times, lives are lost when people take matters into their own hands instead of engaging third parties for mediation or filing police reports so that justice is served,” said Inspector Banda.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the two suspects, urging members of the public with information that may lead to their arrest to report to the nearest police station.
