A MARANGE woman has accused her husband of subjecting her to nearly two decades of alleged sexual abuse, telling the civil court in Mutare on Monday that she is seeking a protection order and maintenance against him.
Jacqueline Kativhu (42), claimed that her 19-year marriage to George Chisango (46), was marred by relentless sexual demands that left her emotionally drained and physically harmed.
Appearing before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Thandiwe Sibanda, Kativhu detailed her ordeal, prompting the court to consider her application for protection.
“This man will kill me with sex – he does not get tired. Even when I was pregnant, he demanded it. I once fainted during a painful act,” Kativhu told the court, further recounting giving birth at home because her husband had insisted on intimacy even while she was experiencing labour pains.
Kativhu said the ordeal left her financially unsupported as well.
“The only thing my husband knows to do is sex.
“He has never provided for me or our five children. I am exhausted, traumatised, and scared for my own life,” she added.
In a startling admission, Chisango did not deny the allegations.
He told Mrs Sibanda that sexual intimacy had been the primary reason he married Kativhu.
“I can make love to my wife in whichever manner I want because I married her for sex first and love later,” he said, shrugging off the pain and distress he caused.
Kativhu further told the court that she believed her husband was seeking a younger woman to fulfil his sexual desires.
“I am old and weak – I cannot keep up with him. He needs someone who can endure these weird practices, but I cannot,” she said.
Mrs Sibanda condemned Chisango’s conduct, describing it as “inhuman and unacceptable.”
She granted Kativhu both applications, and ordered Chisango to attend mandatory counselling on marital rights and respect for spousal consent.
He was further instructed to provide US$90 monthly towards the upkeep of their three minor children, with a stern warning that any recurrence of abuse would result in criminal prosecution.
