In a separate incident, another 32-year-old man from Harare committed suicide near Makhakavhule cemetery in Beitbridge after his wife was snatched by another man and refused to reconcile with him.
Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe said in the first incident which occurred under chief Matibe area, Oliver Muleya had a dispute with his wife who accused him of being weak in bed.
This did not go down well with him as the wife sought the intervention of family elders. She did not sleep at the homestead that night.
“When she came back on the following morning, she found Muleya’s lifeless body hanging from one of the roof trusses.
“He had written a note that he killed himself because his spouse had accused him of failing to satisfy her in bed.
“The matter was then reported to the police who then ferried the body to Beitbridge district hospital mortuary. The postmortem has since been waived by a local magistrate,” he said.
He warned people against committing suicide when faced with problems.
Insp Dzirutwe said the second incident occurred the following day near Makhakavhule cemetery.
It is understood that Vonne Vheremu had left his wife and their two-year-old daughter in the border town and went to Harare where he stayed for 10 months.
During that period he cut off communication with his wife prompting the woman to move on with another boyfriend.
He only showed up on Sunday afternoon where he confronted the woman and demanded to see his child. He was told that she was away with her grandparents.
Vheremu then asked for reconciliation with his wife and was turned down. Spurned by that move he threatened to commit suicide. An argument then ensued between the two, but they finally agreed to have another “dance” again.
Things got to head when Vheremu took his car and told the wife that he was not convinced that she still loved him.
He told her he was going to take some poison and he left.
The wife then rushed to make a report to the police about Vheremu’s intentions to kill himself.
“While on her way to the police station the now deceased called her and said he had changed his mind and was going home.
“Instead of going home the man drove along a road leading to Makhakavhule cemetery where he took some poison and wrote a suicide note advising his relatives that he had taken away his life because the mother of his child had refused to take him back.
“His body was spotted in the car by some residents who alerted the police thinking that he had been robbed.
“When the police arrived at the scene they took him to the hospital where the doctors tried to neutralise the poison. He told the hospital staff that he had given up life because his wife had found another man.
“Unfortunately, he died after speaking to the medical staff. A search on his car was then conducted leading to the discovery of the suicide note,” said Insp Dzirutwe.
