PREMIER Soccer League teams will have at least two weeks to reflect on their performance and finetune their sides after the top-flight body yesterday announced that there will be no league matches between from July 18-29.
A statement from the league’s media and liaison officer Kudzai Bare said the fixtures programme will take a mid-season break in two weeks’ time, after the Week 15 matches to enable them to recharge their batteries. Bare said the league will take advantage of the break to host the finals of the ZNA Charities Shield, which have been slotted for July 24 at Barbourfields.
Highlanders and Harare City will feature in the final. The Bulawayo giants will play their third straight match in the tournament at their favourite home ground.
They beat Chicken Inn 4-3 on penalties in the quarter-finals at the venue after the match had ended 1-1 in regulation time.
They then edged FC Platinum on penalties in the semi-finals following a 1-1 stalemate at Barbourfields.
Harare City also started their campaign with a penalty shootout win over CAPS United after their quarter-final match finished 1-1 at Rufaro.
The Sunshine Boys proceeded to the finals with a 3-0 thrashing of ZPC Kariba in a rescheduled match that was played at Nyamhunga on March 28. Bare said the league is urging clubs to put their houses in order during this period.
