2 women drag businessman to maintenance court

TWO women yesterday dragged a director at Instalite Company in Bulawayo to court seeking maintenance for their children with him.

Bekezela Nkomo, the director, contended with his wife Mrs Musanyara Nkomo who was demanding $1 020 for the upkeep of the couple’s three children while another woman, only identified as Sibonginkosi also wanted him to take care of his children.

The details of Sibonginkosi’s application were not disclosed in court because she failed to appear for the case.

Mrs Nkomo said her husband was an irresponsible father who dumped his family two years ago.

“I want Nkomo to give me $1 020 so that l can pay school fees for our two children who dropped out of school because l’m failing to pay their fees.

They were both doing Form Five and the other one who is at university is about to drop out because l am also failing to raise his school fees,” said Mrs Nkomo.

She told Bulawayo maintenance court magistrate Mr Manase Musiiwa that she is a vendor and it was painful to raise their children on her own knowing that their father is earning $4 000 per month.

Nkomo told the magistrate he could not afford to pay what his wife was claiming as he is a pensioner earning $200 per month.

“My wife is lying, l used to work for the company that she is referring to but it was closed last year due to a liquidity crisis. I can offer $50 because l have another child out of wedlock and he needs school fees as he is at university,” he said.

Mrs Nkomo denied everything that he said.

She told the magistrate that she could bring her children to testify against their father.

“Nkomo is lying your worship. I can bring our children who are just outside to tell you the truth about his character. I can even go and check whether his company is registered and how much is he making per month,” said Mrs Nkomo.

She handed over Nkomo’s business card as a proof that he owns Instalite. She told the magistrate that ever since her husband left them, their lives changed for the worst and that she is unwell.

Mr Musiiwa postponed the matter to October 11 2016 and ordered the respondent to bring his bank statement.
