NATIONAL Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) vice president Enias Nhoro has hailed the IAAF Level One technical training course that ended at Northlea High School on Tuesday saying it will help them prepare better for next year’s Olympic Games.
Twenty officials attended the technical, official, educational and certification system (TOECS) course that tackled competition, interpretation and application of the IAAF rules and regulations.
“The technical training course was a great success because we had a full house. It shows that the base for athletics is growing with officials coming from other provinces,” said Nhoro.
“I believe officials who took part will take the training a step further by implementing what they learnt in their provinces.”
Bulawayo Athletics Board chairman Manuel Mpofu said: “It was great to host and have such a huge turnout. It shows that we are slowly growing to match the required international standards and you must not be shocked when we host the regional level three coaching course. We have been producing brilliant athletes but that does not help when the same athletes do not understand the rules and regulations of athletics because we see many of them getting disqualified at huge events, so that’s where these technical clinics help.”
