A TOTAL of 20 people were injured and ferried to hospital after a commuter omnibus and a private vehicle collided along the Bulawayo/Harare Road in Mahatshula on Monday morning.

According to Bulawayo chief fire officer Mr Mhlangano Moyo, 14 passengers sustained injuries while six were not seriously injured but were also taken to a local hospital for medical attention.

“The commuter omnibus had 18 people on-board while the private vehicle had a driver and passenger. All the 20 people were taken to hospital with varying degrees of injuries,” said Mr Moyo.

By midmorning police had opened up the section of the highway to traffic after the two vehicles were removed from the road.

Witnesses said the commuter omnibus was sideswiped by another vehicle before overturning.

Emergency services and members of the public swiftly responded to the scene and assisted the injured before they were transported to hospital for treatment.
