Polls next year, says President
Takunda Maodza Senior Reporter
PRESIDENT Mugabe says elections will be held early next year and slammed Copac for delaying drafting a new constitution. He said it appeared those managing the constitution-making process were buying time to line their pockets with allowances.
Addressing the Zanu-PF National Consultative Assembly at the party’s headquarters in Harare yesterday, President Mugabe said it was important that the country conducted national elections as the inclusive Government was surviving “on stolen time.”
He said he was empowered by the country’s constitution to announce an election date and would do so at the appropriate time.
