GOVERNMENT has withdrawn State-assi-sted funerals for accident victims, passing the responsibility to transport operators nd those responsible for the accidents.
In the past, the Government used to provide assistance to families of people who perish in road accidents.
But Secretary for Transport, Communications and Infrastructural Development Mr Pattison Mbiriri, speaking ahead of the festive season that is usually characterised by bloody accidents, yesterday said Government was in the process of reversing State-assisted funerals for accident victims.

Minister, mayor clash

LOCAL Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo has written to Harare Mayor Mr Muchadeyi Masunda accusing him of under-performing.
He called on the mayor to pull his socks up.
The mayor however, contends that he is doing his duties well and in turn accuses Minister Chombo and previous councils and commissions of allowing the city to decline.
In a letter to Mr Masunda, Minister Chombo said: “I would like to register my displeasure over your lacklustre approach on matters to do with public welfare.

Parking deal still on, EasiHold insists

EASIHOLD of South Africa yesterday insisted its partnership with the City of Harare was still on and accused council of changing rules governing their EasiPark parking joint venture in a bid to terminate it.
Council passed a resolution to end the deal last week, saying it had run into several problems.
But EasiHold insists the deal to jointly operate parking lots, parkades and on-street parking meters in the city is still on. The firm has sought arbitration on the matter.
“In our opinion, the city changed the rules of the joint venture agreement, which we are unhappy with,” said EasiHold chief executive officer Mr Michael Clarke.
