PM speaks on civil servants’ 2012 pay rise

Lovemore Chikova Deputy News Editor
PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday said civil servants will only get a salary increment next year if revenue from diamonds increases.
In his end of year address to Parliament, PM Tsvangirai said even the good performance of the Government will be hinged on the diamond industry.

He said Zimbabwe will sell its gems despite sanctions imposed on local diamond-producing companies by the United States.
This was a major shift by the PM whose MDC-T party has been siding with non-governmental organisations to prevent the country from getting international clearance to sell diamonds from Marange.
Zimbabwe was given the green light to trade in the gems by the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme last month.

Mutambara loses MDC presidency

Bulawayo Bureau
DEPUTY Prime Minister Professor Arthur Mutambara yesterday lost the case in which he was challenging Professor  Welshman Ncube for the post of MDC president.

The judgment, delivered at the Bulawayo High Court by Justice Nicholas Mathonsi on behalf of Justice Lawrence Kamocha, means that Prof Mutambara is no longer president of the smaller MDC formation.

After being granted a provisional order on February 16, with an interim relief pending the determination of the matter in the High Court, the party amended its application seeking further interdiction for Prof Mutambara not to act as both party president and principal pending finalisation of the case.

Prof Mutambara was also interdicted from purporting to be president of the MDC, exercising any function as president of the party and interfering with party structures.
Yesterday, DPM Mutambara said the judgment will not affect his duties as Deputy Prime Minister and a principal in the inclusive

Zvoma: Zanu-PF MPs in Parly walkout

Lloyd Gumbo Herald Reporter
ZANU-PF legislators yesterday walked out of Parliament in protest over the debate of an MDC-T motion calling for the dismissal of Clerk of Parliament Mr Austin Zvoma.

Mr Zvoma had in the morning filed a court application to interdict the House from de-bating the motion, which was rejected.
MDC-T moved for an amendment of the motion, giving Mr Zvoma a right of reply through a five-member team.
The amended motion stated that the House will have to first vote for dismissal before appointing a five-member team to establish facts of dismissal.

Zanu-PF MPs argued that the amendment was flawed because they could not dismiss Mr Zvoma before hearing his side of the story.
They trooped out of the chamber.
After Zanu-PF legislators walked out, MDC-T lawmakers and MDC chief whip Mr Edward Mkhosi remained in the House and adopted the amended motion.
