The award, 2011 Diplomatic Human Rights Defender, was given to the American ambassador for, in the words of ZOYP’s national coordinator, one Nkosilathi Moyo, “critical helping hand that Ambassador Ray gave” ZOYP, for which ZOYP notes “with bounteous gratitude”.

Former Fifa vice president Jack Warner claims he was awarded World Cup television rights for as little as one dollar in return for helping Sepp Blatter win elections for the presidency of world football’s ruling body.
Warner, who resigned from Fifa in June amid bribery allegations, released a statement which accused the organisation of awarding him the 1998 World Cup rights in his native Trinidad & Tobago for the nominal     fee after he helped Blatter win a ‘brutal’ campaign to become Fifab president.

Bogus cop remanded for robbery

A 32-YEAR-old Beitbridge man was yesterday hauled before the courts for masquerading as a police officer and allegedly robbing three suspected border jumpers of their belongings at gunpoint.
Abel Takavada, of House Number 1517 Dulibadzimu suburb in the border town was not asked to plead to four counts of armed robbery when he appeared before Beitbridge magistrate, Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.
He was remanded in custody to 11 January.

A 27-year-old Bulawayo man working in South Africa was yesterday arraigned before the courts for knocking down a three-year-old boy with his car in an alleged hit and run accident.
The boy was trying to cross the Beitbridge-Bulawayo road at  Malala area.
