Dam levels critical Tighter water rationing regime looms

THE Bulawayo City Council is set to introduce a tighter water-rationing regime for the city as water in the supply dams is at a critical level. The city is reportedly pinning its hopes on the completion of the Mtshabezi-Umzingwane pipeline by the middle of the year to avert a looming disaster that might result in water rationing being introduced.
Dam level statistics released yesterday by the city’s director of engineering services, Engineer Simela Dube, showed that the city’s five supply dams collectively hold 54,21 percent of their capacity as at the end of last month.

Woman boils her new born baby

A Gweru woman from Mkoba Village 11 has been arrested after she allegedly killed her newly born baby by boiling it on a stove after the father denied paternity. The incident, which has left tongues wagging in Gweru, occurred on Tuesday. Witnesses said the woman whose name could not be immediately obtained yesterday was reported to the police at Mkoba Police Station by a tenant who allegedly found her boiling the newly born baby.
Police in Mkoba yesterday confirmed the incident and the arrest of the woman.
