Car importers fleeced of US$400 000

HUNDREDS of Zimbabweans buying second hand vehicles from Japan through the internet have been duped of more than US$400 000 by bogus traders that disappear as soon as money is wired to them.
Documented evidence shows that most of the botched deals took place between May 2010 and November 2011 with sources saying much more could have been lost through these syndicates.

A report prepared by officials from Zimbabwe’s embassy in Japan revealed that most Zimbabweans fall victim to the dealers who offer sale and delivery conditions.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Ambassador Joey Bimha last Wednesday confirmed that some Japanese car traders were duping Zimbabweans.

He, however, could not ascertain the number of people affected.

PRESIDENT Mugabe says he has the energy and vitality to lead the country, contrary to assertions in some quarters that age has caught up with him.
Addressing tens of thousands of people who attended the 21st February Movement celebrations to commemorate his 88th birthday at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare on Saturday, the President, who was his usual energetic self, said he was raring to go.
“These celebrations and your coming here have lifted our spirits . . . I am still strong . . . Ndichinaro simba to lead you but always remember the future belongs to the youths, ndivovachengetedzi venhaka yedu,” he said.
Youths in the crowd were elated when the President reiterated his commitment to youth empowerment.

Police warn party leaders against violence

POLICE will “heavily descend” on political party leaders and their supporters who fan violence, regardless of their social standing, Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri has said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said it was worrisome to note that some political activists masquerading as vendors were attacking policemen on duty in cities.
He said such incorrigible acts, usually perpetrated around regional, continental and international events, were meant to create an impression that there was anarchy in Zimbabwe.
