MDC-T frustrates re-engagement talks

Herald Reporter
MDC-T is reportedly frustrating the Zimbabwe-European Union re-engagement amid indications that the Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai-led party has asked Government to delay dialogue.
The EU imposed illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe after Britain had refused to honour its colonial obligations to pay compensation to white farmers whose farms were compulsorily acquire for redistribution to landless blacks and internationalised a purely bilateral matter.
“The Zimbabwean team is ready for re-engagement but the MDC-T is of the view that talks resume after the Easter and Independence holidays. This is meant to create room for the MDC-T to launch its Global Advocacy Campaign,” a source said.
MDC-T spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora yesterday said: “The MDC is serious and wants to perform its obligations under the Global Political Agreement. The president of the MDC Mr Tsvangirai made a recent statement in Parliament regarding the removal of restrictive measures.
“There is no truth that the MDC does not work in good faith. The Global Advocacy Campaign has nothing to do with issues at hand. The MDC has no reason to delay the re-engagement process.”
