Civil society groups lambast MPs over Dimaf delays

By Leonard Ncube
REPRESENTATIVES of the civil society and industry in Bulawayo yesterday attacked Members of Parliament from Bulawayo and other parts of Matabeleland, describing them as incompetent and failing to pressurise Government to quickly release the Distressed Industries and Marginalised Areas Fund (Dimaf).
They were speaking at a meeting organised by a civil society grouping, Habakkuk Trust, at a local hotel.

The meeting was called to discuss progress in the disbursement of funds under Dimaf.
Participants included industrialists, business-people, representatives of civic organisations and politicians from Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and North.

Speaking at the meeting, after presentations by representatives of the two MDC formations, the participants accused MPs of failing to raise the issue of the fund as anurgent matter in Parliament so as to force Government to release the money. They said the MPs had proved that they were useless.

The participants said it was because of the political leaders’ incompetence and lack of a common vision that the fund was still shrouded in confusion, with some saying it could have been released long back had it been for other regions.
