STAKEHOLDERS in the petroleum industry have implicated senior Government officials in underhand fuel deals that are prejudicing the State of millions of US dollars.

They alleged that certain officials in the Ministry of Energy and Power Development are involved in “administrative sabotage” with a negative impact on fuel companies.

This has resulted in the breach of an agreement signed between the Government and some investors for the smooth and cheap transportation of fuel, aiding a thriving black market while compromising quality control measures.
Sources accused the officials of conniving with European oil companies to monopolise the Feruka Pipeline.

MDC official vanishes in UK

AN official in the Professor Welshman Ncube-led MDC failed to return home after representing the party in the United Kingdom.
Women’s Assembly secretary Ms Ellen Gonyora was reportedly seconded to represent the party at a meeting convened by one of Britain’s ruling coalition parties.

She however, did not turn up for her scheduled flight back home.
The party’s deputy national spokesperson Mr Kurauone Chihwayi yesterday confirmed that Ms Gonyora had attended the meeting in Britain.
He, however, dismissed reports that Ms Gonyora had absconded, saying she had extended her stay in Britain.

Minister wants Zisco, Essar deal revisited

MINES and Mining Development Minister Obert Mpofu says the Essar deal must be revisited because the Indian company will pay only US$700 million for resources worth over US$30 billion

Minister Mpofu said he will transfer mineral rights of iron ore to Essar only for actual value, as part of the conditions he wants observed on the deal.
He said iron ore reserves in Mwanesi near Chivhu, which are supposed to be controlled by Essar under the agreement, had a cumulative value of US$30 billion.
Giving oral evidence before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Industry and Commerce, Minister Mpofu said he will not allow the minerals to be surrendered to Essar for no value in return.
