Share schemes record successes

THE Community Share Ownership Schemes/Trusts (CSOS/Ts) launched by President Mugabe last year to benefit largely rural communities previously marginalised by the colonialists are beginning to record successes albeit slowly as the trustees grapple with the challenge of dealing with large volumes of money.

A ministerial team led by Minister of Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment, Saviour Kasukuwere, and his Local Government, Rural and Urban Development counterpart, Dr Ignatius Chombo, toured the trustees’ projects in Zvishavane and held meetings with the Zvishavane and Tongogara CSOS/Ts in their towns.

The two Ministers and the Midlands Governor, Jason Machaya, expressed satisfaction in the manner the CSOS/Ts were being managed.

“Since the inception of the project, we are quite pleased with the manner in which they are administered and the progress recorded so far, especially in Zvishavane. The Runde Rural District Council in Zvishavane has so far managed to improve its road network and construct two state-of-the-art classroom blocks,” said Minister Kasukuwere.

“Even in Shurugwi, the trust is functioning well. We want to change the face of our towns like Shurugwi and Zvishavane through infrastructural development and job creation using the CSOS/Ts.”
