THE Masvingo City Council is set to construct a roundabout at a cost of $400 000 at the polytechnic junction along the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway as a way of curbing accidents.
Fatal accidents regularly occur at the junction, now referred to as “killer junction”. There has been an outcry from residents who for sometime have been calling on the council to take action.
Presenting a public lecture to academics from local universities and journalists on Thursday evening in Masvingo, the Mayor, Alderman Femius Chakabuda, said although the residents had rejected the proposal to raise tariffs as a resource mobilising strategy towards the construction of a roundabout, the local authority has resolved to go ahead with the project.

Mtshabezi water expected in weeks

BULAWAYO is likely to start accessing water from Mtshabezi Dam in a few weeks time, council’s deputy director of engineering services Engineer Ian Mthunzi said yesterday.
Addressing stakeholders during a tour of the Mtshabezi pipeline to assess progress, Eng Mthunzi said at the pace at which the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) was working, the pipeline was likely to be completed by mid-October.
“I am impressed at the level of progress that has taken place since we toured this place with the Minister of Water Resources Development and Management Sipepa Nkomo. Out of 13 crossings needed for the pipeline, eight have been completed and I am positive the pipeline will be commissioned soon.
