President Mugabe had been given until next week on Monday to proclaim dates for by-elections in Nkayi South, Lupane East and Bulilima East. The three seats fell vacant following the expulsion of Abednico Bhebe (Nkayi South), Njabuliso Mguni (Lupane East) and Norman Mpofu (Bulilima East) from the smaller MDC formation led by Professor Welshman Ncube. The three had sought the legal route to compel the President to proclaim dates for the by-elections.

THREE foreign tourists have each been fined $500 (or nine months in prison) after they were found guilty of unlawfully borrowing a fishing boat and peddling it at night in the Zambezi River. Appearing before Victoria Falls resident magistrate, Mr Archibald Dingana were Maciej Trzcinski (40) and Artur Krzysztof Dabrowski (41), both from Warszanka, Poland, and Francesco Perini (26), who resides at Via Bollitol East 19 Capri, Italy.
